Known by many as the "Golf Capital of the World," the city of Palm Beach Gardens is the epicenter of Palm Beach County, Florida. Formerly rural land belonging to cattle farmers, the region is now home to a number of championship golf courses and the annual Cognizant Classic (formerly the Honda Classic) and it served as the longtime headquarters of the Professional Golfers' Association of America for many years.
Given the pleasant year-round weather, ample attractions and stunning scenery, homes in Palm Beach Gardens are a popular choice for families, retirees, snowbirds, young adults, and, of course, golf enthusiasts.
With more than a dozen golf courses within the city limits and many more in the neighboring towns of Jupiter, North Palm Beach, and West Palm Beach, it is no surprise that many current and past professional golfers choose to call Palm Beach Gardens home. Palm Beach International Airport is just minutes away via I-95, adding to the city's convenience for residents who travel frequently. Read More

Palm Beach Gardens was planned rather than accumulated, and it shows. The city was laid out with wide landscaped corridors, protected green space, and neighborhoods organized around golf courses, parks, and the Loxahatchee Slough preserve to the west. The result is a lower-density, quieter alternative to the coastal barrier-island communities to the east, with the shopping, dining, and medical infrastructure of a much larger city.
Buyers come here for a specific combination that neighboring Jupiter, North Palm Beach, and Wellington do not all offer at once: golf density, a growing medical and employment corridor, regional-scale retail at The Gardens Mall, and — uniquely among the four — significant new construction still coming online.
Golf in Palm Beach Gardens
Many of the city's courses sit inside private, gated communities, including Mirasol Country Club, Old Palm Golf Club, BallenIsles Country Club, Frenchman's Reserve, and Frenchman's Creek. PGA National Resort plays 99 holes across five 18-hole courses plus The Staple, a nine-hole short course. Its Champion Course — originally designed by Tom and George Fazio and substantially redesigned by Jack Nicklaus in 1990, when he created the Bear Trap at holes 15 through 17 — hosts The Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches each winter. Nicklaus returned for further work in 2002, 2014, and 2018.
Panther National, off Northlake Boulevard on the city's western edge, opened in November 2023 as the first new private golf community in Palm Beach County in nearly two decades. Its 18-hole course is a Jack Nicklaus Signature design co-created with PGA Tour player Justin Thomas, surrounded by 218 modern estate homesites.
Public golf is genuinely good here. Sandhill Crane Golf Club, the municipal course redesigned in 2013 and set along the Loxahatchee Slough Natural Area, added The Nest in August 2023 — a Nicklaus Design par-3 course with a 30,000-square-foot putting course and a two-story range with covered Trackman bays. Just outside the city, Abacoa Golf Club in Jupiter is the last course designed by architect Joe Lee, and North Palm Beach Country Club is one of the few municipal Jack Nicklaus Signature courses anywhere.
New Construction and Master-Planned Communities
Three western developments are reshaping the city's inventory. Avenir, a 4,752-acre master-planned community, will deliver more than 4,000 homes at buildout alongside a Town Center designed as a walkable retail and dining core. Alton, closer to I-95 and Donald Ross Road, pairs single-family neighborhoods and townhomes with a mixed-use center and a growing medical campus. Panther National, adjacent to Avenir, offers custom estates in an environmental-modernist architectural style by Miami architect Max Strang, with community-wide solar, battery storage, and EV charging.
Established communities across the city cover the rest of the range — Evergrene, Mirabella at Mirasol, San Michele, Steeplechase, Old Marsh, Legacy Place, PGA Commons, and the waterfront enclaves of Prosperity Bay Village and Frenchman's Creek among them.
Healthcare
Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, a 199-bed acute care hospital and one of the city's largest employers, anchors local healthcare. The Alan B. Miller Medical Center, a seven-story, 365,000-square-foot facility on a 34-acre campus in Alton, is expected to employ roughly 800 people. Jupiter Medical is adding a 29-bed neighborhood hospital with an emergency department and four operating rooms at Avenir.
Sports and Outdoor Recreation
The city maintains an unusually deep parks system for its size. Mirasol Park offers a playground, pavilion, fitness equipment, basketball courts, and a multipurpose field. Gardens Park carries the city's baseball and athletic fields. Karen T. Marcus Sandhill Crane Access Park sits at the junction of several Loxahatchee Slough trails, with an observation tower over a cypress swamp, a launch ramp, and a fishing dock. Organized youth and adult programs run year-round in baseball, softball, soccer, lacrosse, football, and basketball.
Tennis has real history here — Venus and Serena Williams's family relocated to the area in 1991, and the sisters built a home in BallenIsles after buying there in 1998. The city's Tennis and Pickleball Center carries hydro-grid clay courts, hard courts, and dedicated pickleball courts. For swimming, the Burns Road Community Center and Aquatic Complex includes a lap pool, play pool, water slides, and a splash park.
Shopping and Dining
The Gardens Mall on PGA Boulevard is the region's flagship retail center — 1.4 million square feet and more than 150 stores, anchored by Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale's, and Macy's, with a Dick's House of Sport taking the former Sears space. Downtown Palm Beach Gardens, rebranded from Downtown at the Gardens in 2020, is the open-air counterpart, with restaurants, a lakefront green, and family programming through the year. PGA Commons on PGA Boulevard rounds out the mix with a smaller, restaurant-heavy streetscape.
Dining runs from casual to chef-driven. Rocco's Tacos and Tequila Bar, The Cooper, Spoto's Oyster Bar, and Christopher's Kitchen are among the local standbys, and the seafood is close to the source — the Jupiter and Palm Beach inlets are both within a short drive.
Schools in Palm Beach Gardens
Palm Beach Gardens is served by the School District of Palm Beach County. Public schools serving the city include Timber Trace Elementary, Marsh Pointe Elementary, and Palm Beach Gardens Elementary; Watson B. Duncan Middle and Howell L. Watkins Middle; and William T. Dwyer High School and Palm Beach Gardens Community High School.
Both high schools run magnet and Choice programs. Dwyer offers the International Baccalaureate program, an Academy of Finance, and an Early Childhood Teacher Academy. Palm Beach Gardens Community High offers programs in pre-med, global business and entrepreneurship, sports management, tourism, television and film production, and culinary arts. Because Choice assignments and attendance zones change from year to year, families should confirm current zoning and program offerings directly with the School District of Palm Beach County.
Private options are strong locally. The Benjamin School's 50-acre Upper School campus in Palm Beach Gardens serves grades nine through 12, with its Lower and Middle School campus in North Palm Beach. St. Mark's Episcopal School sits on an 11-acre Palm Beach Gardens campus and has operated since 1979. Cardinal Newman High School, a Catholic college-preparatory school founded in 1961, is in West Palm Beach.
Palm Beach Gardens FAQs
What types of homes are available in Palm Beach Gardens homes for sale?
The city covers a wide range. Eastern neighborhoods along the Intracoastal Waterway hold custom waterfront estates with private deep-water dockage and ocean access through the Jupiter and Palm Beach inlets. Gated golf communities such as Mirasol, Old Palm, BallenIsles, and Frenchman's Reserve hold single-family estate homes, coach homes, and villas. Newer construction is concentrated west at Avenir, Alton, and Panther National, and the city also has a substantial stock of townhomes and low-maintenance condominiums in communities like Evergrene, San Michele, and Legacy Place.
Is Palm Beach Gardens a gated community?
No — Palm Beach Gardens is an open, incorporated municipality, not a gated development. Many of its individual communities are private and gated, including PGA National, Mirasol, Old Palm, BallenIsles, Frenchman's Reserve, Frenchman's Creek, and Panther National, while a large share of the city's neighborhoods are ungated and publicly accessible.
What public and private schools serve Palm Beach Gardens homes for sale?
Public schools are operated by the School District of Palm Beach County and include Timber Trace, Marsh Pointe, and Palm Beach Gardens elementary schools; Watson B. Duncan and Howell L. Watkins middle schools; and William T. Dwyer High School and Palm Beach Gardens Community High School. Dwyer runs the International Baccalaureate program and an Academy of Finance; Palm Beach Gardens Community High offers pre-med, culinary arts, and film production programs among others. Nearby private options include The Benjamin School's Upper School campus in Palm Beach Gardens, St. Mark's Episcopal School, and Cardinal Newman High School in West Palm Beach. Verify current attendance zoning and Choice program availability directly with the School District of Palm Beach County before making a decision.
How far is Palm Beach Gardens from the beach?
Palm Beach Gardens is not an oceanfront city, but the beach is close. Juno Beach and Jupiter's public beaches are about 10 miles east, a 15 to 20 minute drive from most of the city. Homes in the eastern neighborhoods front the Intracoastal Waterway rather than the ocean, which is what makes private dockage and direct boat access possible there.
